Mac or Windows? A quick guide to pick the right all-in-one PC

All-in-one computers have evolved over the years. Along with a host of features, they cater to a variety of computing needs.

All-in-one desktop computers, also known as AIO PCs offer the flexibility of a laptop and the performance of a desktop with a large screen real estate. While all-in-one PCs aren’t as popular as they were just a few years ago, there are still plenty of good options to choose from, especially for those who want a complete computing solution within a limited budget.

Unlike a laptop or a modular desktop, an all-in-one PC offers everything that one requires, which includes a great large screen display, keyboard, and mouse. Most modern AIOs, despite packing a big screen, are compact in size, which makes them easy to set up and use even in compact workplaces.

Similarly, when compared to a laptop, an all-in-one PC offers much bigger screen real estate, making it a good choice for those, who work from home, and do not want to spend a lot of money to set up a custom PC.

Different types of all-in-one computers?

You can get an all-in-one computer based on Windows or Mac platforms. While Apple was once known for its extensive range of all-in-one computers called iMac, the current offering is just limited to one model — 24-inch iMac. However, when it comes to the Windows side of things, there are a plethora of options from brands like MicrosoftAsusHPDell, and Lenovo.

Windows PC makers do offer a lot of options, which include all-in-one PCs with touch support, compact options with a smaller screen, and some brands even offer high-performance computers with dedicated graphics cards.

Best Mac all-in-one PC

Apple’s newly announced M3 iMac is clearly the best and currently the only all-in-one PC that Apple sells. Unlike Windows offerings, the M3 iMac can be customised as per requirement, which includes increasing RAM and memory and it is also available in six colours.

While the base variant with M3 featuring an eight-core CPU and eight-core GPU costs Rs 1,34,900 in India, the price goes up to Rs 1,74,900 for the ten-core GPU model, which also offers 512 GB of internal storage and 8 GB unified memory.

Affordable all-in-one PCs

While there is no shortage of cheap all-in-one PCs on the Windows side of things, one that really caught our attention was the ASUS Vivo AiO V222, priced at just Rs 31,990, this desktop computer offers a large 21.5-inch bezel-less display and is powered by the Intel Pentium Silver J5040 quad-core processor with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB of SSD. On top of that, it runs on Windows 11 OS and is available in a premium gold finish. In fact, you can also get a similarly specced HP All-in-One PC for Rs 34,990 with 512 GB of internal storage.

All-in-one with touch support

The Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 3 Gen 6 is an affordable all-in-one computer with a large 24-inch FHD resolution touch display. This all-in-one PC offers an AMD Ryze 3 3250U processor with 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD. When compared to most AIOs, it also comes with a unique design and stands out from the crowd.

Microsoft Surface Studio

The Microsoft Surface Studio is one of the most premium all-in-one PCs that money can buy. Featuring a metal body and a timeless design, this computer offers one of the highest resolution screens that one can find on an all-in-one with a native resolution of 4500x3000p and it also ships with Windows 10 Pro, which offers a more stable experience and can be upgraded to Windows 11.
