Brisbane, Australia: Despite facing mounting criticism for his recent form, Virat Kohli’s determination to get back to his best has been hailed by many, including former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. After a disappointing first innings in the third Test against Australia, where Kohli managed just 3 runs before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood, the Indian superstar was seen in the nets on Day 4, working relentlessly to rediscover his touch and make a meaningful contribution in India’s second innings.
Kohli’s Hard Work in the Nets
Kohli’s struggles with the bat have been well-documented throughout the series, but his response to adversity has been inspiring. On the fourth day of the Brisbane Test, as India fought to stay in the contest, Kohli was spotted in the nets, hitting plenty of balls and putting in the hard yards to regain his form. This proactive approach to self-correction during a live match drew praise from Harbhajan Singh, who appreciated Kohli’s commitment.
In a conversation with the broadcasters, Harbhajan stated, “They have been hitting a lot of balls here. Why are they here? They haven’t been scoring a lot of runs in this series. India need Virat and Gill to fire. It’s so good to see them at the practice session even when Team India is batting out there. They are here in the nets, hitting a lot of balls. You can feel good by hitting a lot of balls. When you are not in form, you can feel better by hitting a lot of balls.”
Harbhajan continued, “I hope these practice sessions will bring what India needs in the middle.” The former spinner’s words highlighted the importance of Kohli’s mental resilience and determination to fight his way back into form, even under pressure.
Shubman Gill and Other Players in the Nets
Alongside Kohli, young opening batsman Shubman Gill was also seen putting in the extra effort in the nets, working on his technique and attempting to solve his own form issues. Meanwhile, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja were fighting hard at the crease, with Rahul making an admirable 84 runs in India’s second innings, continuing his stellar form in the series.
KL Rahul’s Solid Performance
While Kohli worked on his game off the field, it was Rahul who stood tall for India on the field. His 84 runs (139 balls, 8×4) provided the backbone of India’s resistance as they fought to avoid the follow-on. Rahul’s technical prowess and patience under pressure allowed him to tackle the Australian bowlers effectively. Along with Jadeja, Rahul added 67 runs for the sixth wicket, ensuring that India could push forward in their bid to stay in the game.
However, the pair’s partnership ended when Rahul was dismissed off a brilliant catch by Steve Smith, leaving India at 213 for nine, still 193 runs behind Australia’s first innings total.
Kohli’s Return to Form Expected
While Kohli’s struggles continue to draw attention, his commitment in the nets is a clear indication of his resolve to turn things around. The extra effort, according to Harbhajan, will be crucial for India as they look to keep their hopes alive in the ongoing Test match.
As the match progresses into Day 5, all eyes will be on Kohli to see if his hard work can translate into runs and contribute significantly to India’s cause. The Indian team remains hopeful that the star batsman can rediscover his form and make the difference in the second innings.
