CSK chased down their target of 138 with 7 wickets and 14 balls to spare. The visitors finished with 137/9 on a sluggish pitch that offered turn.
While Gaikwad hit the winning runs, moments earlier the Chepauk faithful got their moment to cheer on MS Dhoni walking out to bat for the first time at their home ground for the season.
Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja produced a game-changing spell as he dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Sunil Narine in one over after KKR were off to a good start.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s CSK opted to bowl first against Shreyas Iyer-led KKR. The visitors recovered from losing Phil Salt off the first ball but Jadeja’s over brought them back into the match. He quickly dismissed Venkatesh Iyer as well, eventually finishing with figures of 3/18. He was ably supported by Maheesh Theekshana too as CSK spun a web. Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman were brilliant in the death overs with their cutters as they kept Rinku Singh and Andre Russell quiet.
CSK were bolstered by the return of Mustafizur while the visitors are unchanged. Shardul Thakur got his first game of the season on his return to his former side (against a former side too in KKR).
CSK had suffered back-to-back defeats on the road but kept up their perfect record at home.
