After averting clash with Yodha, Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi starrer Merry Christmas changes release date again

Merry Christmas is directed by Sriram Raghavan, who returns to the big screen after the success of his acclaimed 2018 thriller Andhadhun.

There will be no Merry Christmas this December. Makers of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi starrer thriller Merry Christmas on Thursday announced that they won’t release the film on December 8 anymore due to a bunch of other new releases.

Merry Christmas is directed by Sriram Raghavan, who returns to the big screen after the success of his acclaimed 2018 thriller Andhadhun. His latest film will now release on January 12, 2024.

In a statement shared by the makers, the team said the postponement of the film had to be done for a better release window. “We have made this film with a lot of love & passion like every filmmaker does however with the back to back movie releases and packed last two months of 2023, we have taken the decision to extend the season of joy and bring our film to the theatres on 12th January 2024,” the statement read.

Originally, Karan Johar backed Yodha, starring Sidharth Malhotra was supposed to release on December 15, but Merry Christmas later occupied the same slot. Then Yodha was advanced to December 8 but so was Merry Christmas. In a twist now, the December 8 slot will now be vacant as even Yodha has backed out of the date and will now release on March 15, 2024. The December reshuffle of films has happened due to two major box office clashes in the month.

While December 1 will see the release of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur, December end will see Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’ Salaar clashing at the box office.

Merry Christmas is produced by Ramesh Taurani, Jaya Taurani, Sanjay Routray and Kewal Garg. Katrina, meanwhile, is currently seen in Tiger 3, headlined by Salman Khan. The film features her as a Pakistani spy agent.
